Trumpet Winsock Settings for Dialing up PRIS (for Windows 3.# Users)

Changing the Dial-up Phone Number

You may need to change the dial up number in Trumpet Winsock from time to time. Perhaps you have moved to a different town within the Peace Region, or perhaps you are visiting with your laptop. This is useful for all members who wish to dial up the mail express numbers for their community (Dawson Creek:782-8983 All other towns:1-888-685-6245).

You may also want to refer to these instructions if you are helping a friend set up their system.

Open Trumpet, Select Dialer from the menu bar, then setup.cmd from the drop down box, and enter the appropriate phone number for your community and service.

Chetwynd: 788-3466
Dawson Creek: 782-5670 (33.6K) or 782-1814 (56K or ISDN)
Ft. St. John: 785-4223 (33.6K) or 785-1107 (56K or ISDN)
Tumbler Ridge: 242-4700
Fort Nelson: 774-6067

Enabling Password Authentication Protocol

This protocol will automatically check your user ID and password without you having to enter it every time. Many programs will open your connection automatically for you, if this is enabled. To turn Password Authentication Protocol on, choose File from the menu bar, then select PPP Options from the dropdown box. Click the box next to "Use Password Authentication Protocol (PAP)" and enter your User Id and Password in the appropriate text entry boxes, as shown below.

To allow for a manual login, PAP must be turned Off in all communities except Ft. Nelson and Tumbler Ridge.

Checking Other Settings under "File" - "Setup"

These settings should probably remain unchanged from what you already have:

The Name Servers in all communities are 199.60.237.1 and 199.60.237.2. These are two separate servers, separated by a space. One is a back-up to the other. (Do not worry if, as you type them in, they seem to scroll out of view within the box...This is normal).

MTU can be increased to 1500, for more efficient packet transmission.
The SLIP Port (or Comm Port) depends on your machine, and should be left as it was.

VJ CSLIP compression is supported, and should be enabled (checked)
Baud Rate should be left unchanged from what you had before:

38400 for most 14,400 baud modems
57600 for most 28,800 baud modems
115200 for most faster modems
19200 for modems on poorer telephone lines.

Updating your Login Script

If you are having trouble connecting to PRIS automatically, and have to resort to a manual login to connect, perhaps you do not have the latest login script. Perhaps you are a new member who has used the older setup disks loaned by a friend, or a veteran user that never bothered to switch. You can get the new login script by clicking here.
You can then proceed as follows:

1).
Use your Netscape Menu Item "File" - "Save As" to move it into your Trumpet Directory (Usually c:/pris/trumpet), leaving the name as 'login.cmd' (recommended method)

or

2).
Use your Netscape "Edit" - "Cut and Paste" functions on the text of the script shown by and pasting it into your existing login.cmd file in the Trumpet Directory.
