Setting up your Microsoft Outlook Express Program for use with PRIS

Microsoft's Outlook Express program is used by a large majority of people for their e-mail.   To set up Outlook Express for use with your PRIS e-mail account, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Open up you Outlook Express program.

  2. If this is the first time you've used Outlook Express, the Connection Wizard may open.   If not, click Tools from the menu bar and select Accounts from the drop down menu.

  3. Click the Mail tab.

  4. Click the Add button and choose Mail from the drop down menu.
The Internet Connection Wizard should pop up.

  5. Enter your name as you would like it to appear on your e-mail, then click the Next button.

  6. Enter your PRIS e-mail address.
Your e-mail address takes the form of your_user_name@pris.ca (see picture below).

    Click Next.

  7. Your incoming mail server needs to be set to the POP3 server type.

Both your "Incoming (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:" and "Outgoing (SMTP) server" should be set to:   mail.pris.ca

    Click Next.

  8. The Internet Mail Logon window is displayed.

Enter your PRIS userid (user name) into the Account name: text entry box, and your PRIS password into the into the Password: box.

Please do not put a checkmark the "Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" box - your mail account will not work if you do.

    Click Next.

  9. Windows will congratulate you on successfully setting up the connection.   Click Finish

  10. At this time, it would be a good idea to set up the default connection for Outlook Express to use.   To do this, click the Properties button.

  11. Select the Connection tab, then put a checkmark in the Always connect to this account using: box.   If you have a high speed connection such as the ADSL or the PRiS Wireless Internet service, you should select Local Area Network.   If you have a dialup account, you should select the dialup connection (usually named PRiS).

Click the Apply button to save the changes.

  12. Click the Close button to return to the Outlook Express main window.

  13. You are now set up to use the PRIS mail server for sending and receiving your e-mail using the Outlook Express program.   Click the Send/Recv icon.

If you have a high speed connection, Outlook Express should now check for new mail and download it.   If you're using a dialup connection, a connection window should pop up, and you can click the Connect or Dial buttons to connect and receive your e-mail.
