Setting up Eudora Light for use with PRISEudora Light is a popular e-mail program. It is provided free of charge by Qualcomm Inc. There is also a professional version with many extended features available for purchase from Qualcomm Inc.. Eudora Light ConfigurationTo begin setting up Eudora Light for use, double-click on the Eudora Light icon or eudora.exe file. If you are opening Eudora for the first time, the Options box appears on your screen. If you are editing your configuration, choose Tools from the top menu bar, and choose Options from the pull down menu.
You should now see a window with a number of icons in a column on the left, and text entry boxes for your information on the right. It is very important to remember to use lower case letters (no capitals) in your entries. The first category is Getting Started. Click on the Getting Started icon so that it is highlighted. You will need to set the POP account to your_userid@mail.pris.bc.ca in the POP account text box. The POP account name is a combination of your userid, and the name of the POP server for the PRIS Domain which is mail.pris.bc.ca. Enter your real name in the Real name entry box (this is the only entry box you can use capital letters in). Lastly, you will need to fill in your return address. The format is Your_userid@pris.bc.ca (this is the address you will give when someone requests your e-mail address). The Connection Method check box should be "Winsock (Network, PPP, SLIP).
We'll next set up the Personal Information. Click on the Personal Information icon to display the entry boxes. The POP account, Real name and Return address fields should already be filled in as the information was carried over from the previous step. You will need to enter your userid into the Dialup username box.
Next we need to configure the Hosts information. Click on the Hosts icon in the column on the left and the Hosts configuration entry boxes will be displayed on the right. The POP account data will have been carried along from the previous steps. You will need to enter the SMTP mail host name, which for PRIS is "mail.pris.bc.ca". SMTP is an acronym which stands for "Simple Mail Transport Protocol".
We now need to configure the Checking Mail settings. Click on the Checking Mail icon to highlight it. Once again, the POP account data in the text box will have been carried along from the previous steps. You can leave the Check for mail every __ min parameter at zero, or you can specify your preference. Send on Check should be check marked, but Skip messages over and Leave mail on server should be unchecked. If you do not want to type in your password each time you check your mail, Save password should be checked also. Determine first message not read by this machine should be chosen, and the Authentication style should be passwords.
Finally, the last thing we need to configure is the Sending Mail category. Click on the Sending mail icon to display its entry boxes. The Return address and SMTP server will once again be filled out already from previous steps. Usually the default settings (all boxes check marked) will suffice for most users.
Although you can change the settings for the remaining icons, it is highly recommended that you leave them at their default values unless you are absolutely sure that you know what you're doing. You can now click OK to accept your chosen settings. Eudora Light is now ready for you to open up a connection to PRIS, to send or receive your mail.
AttachmentsAttachments may be added to composed mail messages by going up to the Message pull down menu, and selecting Attach File. This will bring up a browser which will allow you to select and attach a file to the message that you have composed.
Replying to a Mail MessageReplying to a Mail Message is accomplished by first selecting the message that you wish to reply to, and then clicking on Reply in the Message pull down menu ( or you could use the Ctrl-R short cut key sequence).
